KIMO Associate Membership provides a gateway for organisations to connect with an established international network of coastal municipalities working to protect and enhance marine and coastal environments. Associate Members can build relationships with municipalities and other organisations, share specialist knowledge and expertise, participate in KIMO’s activities and contribute to discussions on marine and coastal environmental policy.

KIMO brings together municipalities across Northern Europe that face many of the same environmental challenges. Associate Membership creates opportunities for organisations with relevant expertise, research, services or practical experience to engage directly with this network.
Whether you are an NGO, research institution, port or maritime organisation, consultancy, environmental company or another organisation working towards healthier marine and coastal environments, Associate Membership provides opportunities to connect, collaborate and contribute.

Contribute to KIMO's policy work
KIMO represents the interests and perspectives of coastal municipalities in discussions at national, European and international levels.
Associate Members can contribute specialist knowledge and practical perspectives that help inform this work. The Associate Membership framework specifically provides opportunities to support the development of KIMO resolutions and policy positions communicated to European and international bodies, including engagement with OSPAR, HELCOM and EU institutions.
This creates a channel through which relevant expertise from organisations outside local government can contribute to discussions about the challenges facing coastal communities.
Who can become an Associate Member?
Associate Membership is intended for organisations that share KIMO’s commitment to healthier marine and coastal environments.
The current Associate Membership offer identifies the following types of organisations:

- Ports and maritime actors
- National and international organisations
- Research institutions
- Environmental and waste management companies
- Consultancies
The list is not necessarily exhaustive: the key consideration is whether an organisation has relevant expertise, experience or interests that can contribute to KIMO’s work and network.
What does Associate Membership cost?
The annual contribution for KIMO Associate Membership is currently €1,500 per year.

KIMO International is our ‘big sister’ organization. We are active at the national level – KIMO International at the international level. While our contacts primarily operate at the local, regional, and national levels, KIMO International maintains contacts at the European and, in some cases, international levels and bodies – for example, IMO, OSPAR, HELCOM, and the European Commission. This is a significant advantage in terms of the reach of our concerns and the opportunities for influence. That’s why we are a member of KIMO International.
