Priorities and Actions Driven by Member Municipalities
KIMO is governed by its member authorities through the Annual General Meeting (AGM), where members approve the annual work programme and budget and elect the Presidency every two years. Strategic oversight is provided by the International Boardo, comprising a representative from each of the countries where KIMO has members, who are responsible for managing the organisation’s priorities, finances and implementation of agreed objectives.
Political leadership is provided by the President and Vice President, while the International Secretariat, hosted by Aalborg Municipality in Denmark, manages the organisation’s day-to-day operations, coordinates collaboration between national networks and delivers KIMO’s programme of work. National KIMO networks each have their own management board and coordinator, providing a direct link between local member municipalities and the international organisation.
This governance structure ensures that decisions are made from the bottom up, enabling local authorities to influence KIMO’s priorities while maintaining strong coordination across the North-East Atlantic and Baltic Sea regions. Through this transparent and collaborative model, KIMO remains accountable to its members and effective in representing their interests at regional, European and international levels.
