Chemical Pollution

Chemical pollution is a significant threat to marine, riverine and coastal environments, with hazardous substances entering the environment through both land- and sea-based activities. These pollutants can disrupt ecosystems, affect human health and create particular challenges for coastal communities. KIMO works to improve understanding of chemical pollution, raise awareness of its impacts and influence stronger regulation and international action. Our work focuses particularly on PFAS, while also addressing other hazardous substances and emerging sources of pollution. By combining evidence, advocacy and knowledge-sharing, KIMO supports municipalities and partners in identifying practical ways to prevent and reduce chemical pollution.
