KIMO Denmark's role in the project:
KIMO Denmark participates in the advisory group, bringing municipal and coastal perspectives to research on hazardous substances and marine pollution.
NewSea is developing an integrated approach for assessing the distribution and effects of hazardous substances entering coastal waters from different point sources.
The project combines chemical measurements, assessments of toxicity to marine organisms and modelling of how pollutants are transported and accumulate in the marine environment. Its case-study area covers the south-eastern Great Belt and the waters of Småland, where coastal waters are currently in poor chemical condition. KIMO Denmark participates in the advisory group, helping connect the research with the practical concerns of coastal municipalities and other stakeholders. The project aims to provide better evidence for environmental management and identify solutions capable of reducing the effects of hazardous substances on marine ecosystems.
