Den Helder has a seven-kilometre North Sea coastline as well as the Marsdiep and Wadden Sea, with extensive dunes and Natura 2000 habitats. Coastal planning seeks to combine nature conservation, water safety and sustainable tourism while strengthening the city’s relationship with its marine environment.
