Overview

Harlingen is Friesland’s principal seaport and lies directly beside the UNESCO Wadden Sea. Its Dijk, Stad, Wad programme combines coastal safety, biodiversity and climate adaptation, while the municipality and partners installed a Bubble Barrier in the Van Harinxmakanaal to intercept plastic before it reaches the Wadden Sea.
