Overview

Vlieland is a Wadden Sea island dominated by beaches, dunes and protected natural landscapes. The municipality works with other Wadden islands on sustainable development, seeking to balance tourism and recreation with conservation. In 2026 Vlieland received Green Destinations QualityCoast Gold status for its sustainability performance.
