Overview

Orkney has a globally significant marine environment supporting fishing, aquaculture, wildlife and renewable energy. The Council completed the Orkney Marine Environment Project and developed a Regional Marine Plan, adopted by Scottish Ministers in 2026, providing a framework for sustainable marine activities out to 12 nautical miles.
