Congratulations Emma!
KIMO Sweden’s scholarship of SEK 15 000 goes this year to Emma Brodén to write a report on the subject of artificial grass sports fields.
Emma has completed a master’s degree in natural sciences in strategic environmental work at Lund University. The spread of granules from artificial grass pitches has been identified as a significant source of microplastic emissions in Sweden. In KIMO, artificial grass has long been an important issue due to the impact of microplastics on the marine environment. Emma will explore this environmental problem and catalogue the current methods which are being used to reduce the spread of microplastics. The results will be presented in the autumn.
This is the third year that KIMO Sweden is awarding a scholarship where a university student has helped us increase knowledge of important marine environmental issues. In 2021 the report was about ghost gear and in 2020 the subject was ‘microplastics from textiles’. These reports can be downloaded below.
