Through its work on fisheries, maritime affairs, marine environmental policy, pollution prevention and the circular economy, the Commission shapes legislation and funding programmes affecting coastal municipalities. KIMO represents its members’ interests at EU level, engaging with the Commission and other institutions to ensure that local coastal perspectives inform policy development. KIMO has particularly advocated stronger action on marine litter, fishing-related waste, hazardous substances and pollution from maritime activities, while supporting practical solutions that can be implemented by municipalities and coastal communities.
