The North Sea Commission (NSC) is a geographical commission of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions, bringing together regional authorities around the North Sea.
It promotes cooperation on shared challenges including marine environmental protection, marine litter, maritime spatial planning, climate change, sustainable economic development and maritime safety. KIMO and the North Sea Commission share a strong focus on protecting the North Sea and representing the interests of coastal communities in regional and European policy. Their collaboration has included joint advocacy on PFAS pollution, including a 2023 joint resolution calling for stronger action on these persistent chemicals and better monitoring of their impacts on marine ecosystems.
