The Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management (SwAM) is the Swedish government agency responsible for marine and water management, including conservation, restoration and sustainable use of seas, freshwater resources and fisheries.
SwAM works through research, monitoring, marine spatial planning, fisheries management and international cooperation, including within HELCOM and OSPAR. KIMO works closely with SwAM on practical marine litter and fishing gear initiatives, drawing on the agency’s scientific and management expertise. This collaboration has supported work on net cuttings, abandoned and lost fishing gear, recreational fishing and other measures designed to reduce marine litter and improve the health of coastal and marine ecosystems.
