KIMO’s role
KIMO International conceived the initiative, administers the UK and Netherlands schemes through its national networks, and maintains the international Fishing for Litter Hub.
Fishing for Litter began as a pilot in the Netherlands and was developed by KIMO into an international initiative encouraging fishing vessels to bring marine litter caught during normal fishing activities back to port.
KIMO provides the framework, knowledge and coordination that enable participating schemes to operate, while KIMO UK administers projects in Scotland and England and KIMO Netherlands & Belgium coordinates the Dutch scheme. The Fishing for Litter Hub provides a central platform for projects across Europe, sharing information, best practice, project data and participating ports. The Hub was further developed through the CleanAtlantic project, helping connect national and regional initiatives and strengthen knowledge exchange across the European Fishing for Litter community.
