KIMO UK's role in the project:
KIMO UK established the pilot, coordinated participating partners and is working towards expanding recycling solutions across the wider UK Fishing for Litter network.
As Fishing for Litter has expanded, KIMO UK has increasingly focused on what happens to the material collected by participating vessels once it reaches shore.
In 2025, the programme established a pilot for recycling Fishing for Litter waste at a Scottish harbour. KIMO UK is using the pilot to understand how collected marine litter can be sorted and recycled and is working with plastic recyclers and government to develop solutions that could be applied across the UK. The initiative supports KIMO’s wider ambition to move beyond simply removing marine litter and towards more circular approaches to waste management.
