KIMO Denmark's role in the project:
KIMO Denmark coordinates activities connecting stakeholders around solutions to reduce marine pollution and plastic waste affecting seabirds and the North Sea.
SUPRE is a national initiative investigating the pressures affecting seabirds in Danish waters and identifying ways to reduce these threats.
More than three million seabirds overwinter in Danish waters, but many species are experiencing significant declines. The project examines pressures including climate change, food shortages, disease, fishing, offshore activities, oil, chemicals and plastic pollution. It combines scientific research with citizen science, including systematic recording and examination of stranded seabirds. KIMO Denmark contributes by coordinating activities that connect organisations and stakeholders around solutions to reduce pollution and marine litter. The project aims to strengthen knowledge, improve marine environmental assessments and support practical measures that benefit seabirds, biodiversity and the wider marine environment.
