KIMO Denmark's role in the project
KIMO Denmark leads the Varde Å river-system work, investigating plastic pathways, sources and prevention measures within the Danish Living Lab.
TREASURE aims to reduce the amount of plastic entering the North Sea through rivers and other inland waterways.
The project brings together 15 organisations from five countries and uses Living Labs to develop practical, transferable solutions. KIMO Denmark leads work on the Varde Å river system as part of the Danish Living Lab, working with Varde and Lemvig municipalities and Lemvig Vand. Activities include tracking plastic movement using wooden drifters, identifying pollution hotspots, investigating wastewater and rainwater pathways, collecting data and testing prevention and removal measures. The project also brings together citizens, schools, utilities and other stakeholders to improve understanding of how litter travels from land to sea.
