Impacts of Marine Debris and Oil

This seminal KIMO report investigates the financial and social costs of marine debris and oil pollution for coastal communities and organisations. It examines direct costs such as cleanup, collection and disposal and considers wider impacts on fishing, tourism, agriculture, emergency services and maritime activities. The report notes that although physical cleanup data were available, much less information existed on indirect economic and social effects. It develops methods for collecting and assessing this information and presents the work as a pilot model that could be applied elsewhere in Europe.
