KIMO Resolution 17/1

This resolution considers how marine spatial planning and control of shipping traffic in the North Sea can contribute to safer shipping and stronger protection of the marine environment. KIMO highlights the need to manage increasing and competing uses of marine space in a coordinated way. The document stresses the interests of coastal municipalities in ensuring that shipping, environmental protection and other marine activities are planned with appropriate consideration of risks to people, coastal communities and the environment. The resolution provides a policy position for engagement with relevant national and European authorities and supports KIMO’s work on maritime safety and pollution.
