KIMO Resolution 20/2

This resolution calls for action to prevent plastic confetti from becoming marine litter. KIMO highlights how small plastic pieces released during celebrations can be dispersed into the surrounding environment and ultimately reach waterways and the sea. Once in the environment, plastic confetti can persist and contribute to microplastic pollution. The resolution therefore supports restrictions on plastic confetti and encourages alternatives that do not create persistent plastic waste. It forms part of KIMO’s work to address avoidable sources of marine litter through policy advocacy, public awareness and practical prevention. The resource can support municipal communication and discussions about local measures.
