Net Cuttings Report – SwAM-KIMO

The Net Cuttings Report examines fishing-related plastic waste, with particular attention to pieces of net and rope generated when fishing gear is repaired. These cuttings can be blown or washed into the marine environment and contribute to coastal litter. The report considers the scale and sources of the problem, waste-management practices and gaps, and the perspectives of fishers and other stakeholders. KIMO consulted fishermen in several countries and used the findings to identify practical opportunities for prevention. The resource provides evidence and recommendations for improving handling of net cuttings and reducing avoidable fishing-related litter entering the sea.
